Listening to music is a great way to relieve stress, cheer up and get inspired. Every country has its own musical history with its own unique songs and artists.
For this week, The Weekend team has chosen its very own favourite songs. It is composed by local musical prodigy May La Than Zin, who started composing music at age Hmone Shwe Yi. The traditional song Hmone Shwe Yi Gold Dust was written by an anonymous writer around a hundred years ago.
It is still popular to this day, on the radio and in public performances. The song compares a rose to a beautiful lady who must choose from her among many suitors. The song was released last April. Htoo Eain Thin is best known for writing and singing jazz tunes with meaningful lyrics. Even though the artist passed away in , Way Twar Tae A Khar can still be heard on the radio throughout the country. It is an up-beat motivational song which resonates with the youth.
Many competitors on programs like The Voice like to perform the song and the tune has already been used as part of the soundtrack for local movies, mostly dramas. The artist wrote and sang his tune for the delight of fans across Myanmar. The rock classic has remained popular across generations. Singer and composer Thar Dee Lu compares every social interaction with prostitutes, as pleasurable but ultimately short-term and meaningless. The singer underlines the non-permanence of all relationships. Taw Countryside is composed and sang by Kyat Pha, one of the pioneer hip hop artists in Myanmar.
The singer manages to compare and contrast life in urban and rural areas. The song was released last year in his solo album and was the most requested song on radio a few months ago. The song was written by the band Snare, featuring U Nay Win and Bagyi Phyo, who are among the most famous rap artists in the country.
A new interpretation featuring rapper Ar-T was released this month, which includes a different melody and electronic influences. Tweets by TheMyanmarTimes.
